Two Tulips
Two Tulips
There are many talented painters who are able to create a "painting a day", which are often small, quickly done, plein-airs that are then auctioned off via the internet. I love the idea even though I don't have the time to commit to it every day. With that in mind I did paint "Two Tulips" in one afternoon. It is looser than my normal style and has, I believe, a lot of energy. I caught those tulips sunbathing! Planted in Memory of Fevzi Aydin.

July Seventh
July Seventh
Another painting inspired by my garden, which I look down upon, from the loft studio. This is how the white pot looked on July seventh of 2008. Each year I plant whatever appeals to me in the moment, so it's never the same from one year to the next.

Dogwood
Dogwood
This is a close up of a dogwood tree on the edge of the woods, in my yard, which I planted as a little stick, about 15 years ago. This was not an easy painting but I'm pleased with the outcome.
This painting was accepted into the 29th Juried Show at the Ridgewood Art Institute in Ridgewood, New Jersey, in January 2009.

Garden Peace
Garden Peace
This painting was begun as a plein air, in my own garden, and finished up in my loft studio. Trying to capture summer in July, the warmth, the scents, the colors, and a little piece of the garden, which is always changing.
"Garden Peace" was accepted into the "15th Annual Juried Small Works Show" by the Upstream Gallery, in January 2009, and the Mamaroneck Artists' Guild's 5th Juried Small Works Show, in May 2009. Both Galleries are in Westchester County, New York.

Muriel's Lily
Muriel's Lily
Visiting my friend, Muriel, at her home in Connecticut I took photos of her water lilies. One photograph stood out and I had to paint it! I loved the way the sun lit up the lily, against the darker background. This lily found the perfect spot to grow in her pond out shining all the others!
This painting was accepted by the Putnam Arts Council to be exhibited in their "46th Annual Juried Fine Arts Exhibit" In October 2008 and The Arts Expo 2009 Juried Show in March 2009.

Cornwall Wildflowers
One of my favorite places to go is Vermont, and sometimes the visit is only for a few days, but I always bring my paints. I took a walk, battling mosquitos, gathered the flowers, and brought them home to paint in the window sill. There was no chance I could survive painting outdoors that summer of 2007, in Cornwall, I'd have been eaten alive!

Queen Anne's Lace
Queen Anne's Lace
This painting was done at our family farm in Ohio. We usually make an annual visit and I always gather flowers for the kitchen table, which always includes Queen Anne's Lace, one of my favorites! I wound up painting these flowers in the evening, in the den, while the rest of the family watched TV.

Vytlacil's Garden
Vytlacil's Garden
Vaclav Vytlacil, (1892-1984), was a neighbor of mine. He was a painter and instructor at the Art Students League in NYC. After he died his daughter generously donated his property to the The Art Students League, in his memory. Today this satellite campus is used for landscape painting & sculpture. This painting of mine was done in their garden in the summer of 2006.
