Paintings in Oil

                              Winter

An abstract painting that evolved over time. The original inspiration was a close up photograph of rocks on the coast of Maine, which I took one summer. The end result is nothing like the photograph but does retain the feel of the ocean, to me. The painting went through many metamorphosis and became an outlet when I was frustrated with other canvases that I was working on. Brushes and palette knives together alleviated my stress and opened up new avenues of creativity. I'm planning on a continuing series.

River's Edge
Postcards from the Edge: an Artists' fundraiser for ROCA
- OPENS SUNDAY 1.22.12, 2-5PM

Artists join forces to raise money for RoCA in Postcards from the Edge,
by creating 6"x8" artwork to be sold for only $50.

My contribution to this fundraiser is called "River's Edge"
painted with palette knives. The scene is one from a hike I took along the Hudson River, beneath the Palisades Cliffs.
It's rocky with reeds that will only grow in brackish waters.

Japan Relief Fundraiser

The earthquake in March took the lives of around 20,000 Japanese, destroyed over 125,000 buildings, and has left 300,000 refugees in need of food, water, shelter, and hope. The economic cost of the disaster has been estimated at $125,000,000,000! Needless to say Japan needs all the help they can get.
The silent auction features artwork donated for this cause by 30 Rockland County artists specializing in painting, graffiti, tattoo art, installation art, photography, illustration, and sculpture. 90% of the profits from this event will be donated to The Japan Society's Earthquake Relief Fund. 10% will be donated to Hines Gallery to continue to exhibit the work of local artists.
Join us Saturday, August 13, 2011, from 6pm to 11pm at:
 Hines Gallery
 92 Lafayette Ave.
  Suffern, NY
for the silent auction, music, (featuring Frankie Dee), along with wine and food.

January 2011

The encaustic above was created using an old family photograph which was given to me, of my twin aunts, who turned 90 last October. I used the technique of transferring the photograph to an encaustic prepared clayboard. This became the base level for the painting.

Google Earth: Twenty One Ten

This is my foray into the world of recycled, abstract, art. A complete departure from my traditional landscapes but one which has been pulling at me for some time. I have always admired certain kinds of abstract art but, until this piece, have never liked any of my attempts into that realm. It's very difficult for me to let go of the conventional image!

My husband named the piece. It's a reflection of how we humans treat our planet, and how the planet may look, from space, in 2110. The BP oil spill continues unabated. This piece is a sign of the times, hopefully not a sign of the future, but it's hard to know.

It has been accepted into the Art Society of Greenwich Members' Juried Show
July 2010

1st Place Award - Mixed Media
Ringwood Manor Association of Arts 45th Juried Show
October 2010
